Cancer is a common disease which
mostly affects older people. Having a
few relatives diagnosed with cancer
does not mean it is hereditary
(hereditary cancer = cancer caused by
a faulty gene running in the family).
When cancer develops in the context of an herditary syndrome, we see multiple close relatives affected by cancer with many of them being diagnosed when younger than 50 years old. The mostly common cancer linked with hereditary conditions are breast, colorectal and uterine cancer. Please talk to your doctor if you think this can be case for your family.
